Bilingual (Eng-Jap) Graphic Designer

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. is currently seeking an experienced English-Japanese bilingual graphic designer to be responsible for creating a variety of marketing assets, including packaging, user manuals, posters, art books, and other specialty items as needed. The position requires the talent to both localize existing materials to suit the North American market and make products from scratch. The candidate will work as part of a design team encompassing print, web, and video, as well as a larger marketing staff. He/she will be responsible for interacting with various departments and suppliers to ensure product completion, managing projects from the initial brief through to the final print or online production. He/she will be expected to execute multiple projects simultaneously, on time, and within budget. Reports to the Senior Marketing Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Localize licensor’s original marketing assets and/or create assets from scratch to build packaging, game manuals, and marketing collateral for all major platforms (Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PC, and more) for the North American market.
  • Design and produce promotional goods such as art books, soundtracks, apparel, posters, magazine and online advertisements and special packaging.
  • Create business collateral for trade shows, including oversized print media, high-visibility takeaways, and consumer swag.
  • Evaluate vendor product samples, manage manufacturing timelines, and negotiate proposed pricing. Conduct press checks, reviews of product quality, and quality control at each step of the design and production process. Ensure physical goods are produced on-time and on-budget.
  • Manage approval submission process with industry-review boards including ESRB, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Microsoft, Nintendo, game developers, and outside vendors.
  • Manage localization of English materials into additional languages through translation companies. Complete final product in multiple languages.
  • Ensure that production materials, design, and marketing message fit with overall ATLUS brand and product strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency on Mac: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark Xpress.
  • Working knowledge of: Bridge, Word, Excel, Font Book, FTP.
  • Strong understanding of typography, colors, and composition.
  • Must be able to prioritize work efficiently and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and give constructive critiques.
  • Must possess a professional demeanor and be able to carry out business communications both internally and externally.
  • At least 3+ years of graphic design experience within a professional environment.
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts w/emphasis on Graphic Design (or equivalent work experience).
  • Bilingual in English and Japanese.

Must present an online portfolio for consideration.

Additional positive considerations:

  • Understanding of prepress process beyond desktop production.
  • Knowledge of multi-page layout products such as manuals and books.
  • Video game first-party marketing experience (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Steam).
  • Passion for video games (online or console) and video game communities.
  • Knowledge of HTML 5, Adobe Flash, Premiere, and/or AfterEffects.

Translator (Temporary position, possibly leading to full time)

ATLUS is currently seeking a Japanese-to-English translator to help localize an upcoming project.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Must have previously done translation work
  • Familiarity with games, particularly RPGs
  • Knowledge of Japanese culture
  • Deep level of Japanese fluency; able to understand nuanced meanings

Marketing and Public Relations Intern (Bilingual English /Japanese Preferred)

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. is currently seeking an Intern for the Marketing and Public Relations department. This position will provide the candidate with a ground-level view of product marketing, including positioning, promotion, advertising, and publicity; and will connect him/her with high-profile organizations within the video games industry. (A non-disclosure and confidentiality agreement is required for the position.) The ideal candidate must be reliable, detail-oriented, web-savvy, and a team player with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Candidates must also have their own means of transportation to Irvine. Candidates will be responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Completing research projects, such as finding competitive game titles, researching other companies' marketing efforts, and seeking and comparing vendors' offerings
  • Tracking and following up with major game publications and online retailers to ensure timely posting of our marketing assets
  • Learning about and eventually drafting public relations materials, such as pitches, press releases and media correspondence
  • Creating co-marketing submissions to Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft
  • Liaising with 3rd party websites to set up contests and promotions
  • This is an unpaid internship. Internship period is 3 months with a minimum of 20 hours per week required. (Additional time may be negotiated.) There may be an opportunity to extend the internship into additional periods for the right candidate.

    Qualifications:

    Game Tester/Quality Assurance

    ATLUS is looking for Game Testers to work on an upcoming title. Testers will be responsible for playing through the game and reporting bugs accurately and clearly. Since the majority of bugs may be text-related, individuals with a strong command of the English language are preferred. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented and a team player with good communication skills.

    Requirements

  • Previous software testing experience preferred. Console or PC gaming experience required.
  • 18 years or older only.
  • Strong reading, writing, and spelling skills.
  • Computer literate.

  • Hours are 9:00-5:30 M-F plus paid overtime.
  • This is a temporary position lasting the duration of the project (approximately 4-8 weeks).
